This is it folks. I'd put all my chips on this pizza any day of the week. As T Pain says at the end of Chris Brown's "Kiss Kiss", "If you ain't got it by now, then you just ain't gettin' it". If you don't love this pizza, you just don't love pizza. There aren't many things you can say that about, you know. Everyone has different tastes, preferences, likes, dislikes.. especially when it comes to food. But this is a one size fits all, cream of the crop pizza. Even if you plucked an Italian from the pizza capital of the world and dropped him at a seat at one of Song E Napule's tables, I bet he'd still enjoy it (but to be honest I would be really scared he wouldn't, Italians will tell you that kind of stuff).
But, assuming that's not the case, you can rest easy knowing you're going to have a good time here. First of all, before we even get to the food, let's talk atmosphere & service. The interior of this restaurant might as well be Italy itself. It's casual - pictures of soccer players on the wall, signed soccer paraphernalia, little artisan artworks, I'm pretty sure they even have jerseys hanging from the ceiling. The staff is equally casual, wearing jerseys also, and I wouldn't have it any other way. That, combined with the smell of a pizza oven, the Italian banter you hear throughout your meal, and even the way they tell you about the daily special - with all the love that they have for food radiating through the description, makes you feel like you've been transported far from Houston Street.
At this point, you might think I'm over-romanticizing this place a little bit. But if you're not convinced yet, just listen to the food. Remember in Ratatouille, (side note, that's a GOAT movie, for some reason people hate on it)... anyways - toward the end when the food critic Ego eats the first bite of ratatouille and is transfigured back to his mothers kitchen when she made him his favorite comfort food? Well, that's what happened when I took a bite of the calzone. Seriously. Just as a smell can instantly trigger a memory of a place or a point in time, that first bite at Song E Napule took me right back to my study abroad at the hightop table of Gusta Pizza in Florence.
I didn't intend to write a review this long, but once I started writing, I realized how much I love this place. I think I might even go tonight! If you find yourself here: 1. count your lucky stars, it's delicious. 2. Get the calzone clasico. 3. Get another pizza, whatever your heart desires (we like the Tartufata). 4. Realize that good food really is the meaning of life and book your plane ticket to Italy.
