The Tavern Burger. Woof.
This place has a reputation so large, we can keep this review short. Gramercy Tavern lived up to all the hype around it. It sounds like their menu is seasonal too, so I'm excited to go back and see whats new. One staple that you can't go wrong with though is the tavern burger. It sounds simple enough: a bacon cheeseburger... which is why it was so mind-boggling how good it was. It's one of the first burgers I've tried and though "wow, this one might actually overtake Au Cheval on my list". I've been dreaming about it for the last few days now, and hope I can go back soon.
We also tried the Campanelle, Chocolate Cake and Beignets. The Campanelle was insane, and both desserts were great. I think I need to go back and try the cookie & milk though. If you put a cookie and milk on your dessert menu, it's gotta be good.
This is definitely a dinner to plan ahead for since reservations can be hard to come by. When you do book a table, you'll have two options: dining room or tavern. Everything we tried was at the Tavern, but if you want to try the dining room you can look forward to an upscale pre-fixe menu priced at about $165. I'm sure it's excellent, but this is one case where you don't feel like you're missing out by opting for the more budget-friendly menu. There really isn't an occasion I wouldn't recommend Gramercy Tavern for, so get a res and look forward to it.
